Aggregate Impact Value

The aggregate impact value gives a relative measure of the resistance of an aggregate to sudden shock of impact.
Procedure
1. Take the aggregates, which has passed 14mm sieve and retained on the sieve.
2. Then cup was filled with aggregate and get weight.
3. Then it was put in to the AIV machine and subjected to 15 blows from AIV machine.
4. After this sample was sieve by 2.36 m sieve.
5. Calculate the passing percentage and given as AIV.
Thus that higher the aggregate impact value weaker is the aggregate. The AIV for road construction should not be more than 30%.
